

Up here saw the volunteer American of MacPap´s Battalion Canadian Claude Pringle. He was born on 22 January 1894 in Virginia. During World War I, Pringle served in the U.S. Army and saw duty in France. After the war he worked as a coal miner in Bellaire, Ohio, where he was involved in the mineworkers' strike of 1922. He joined the Communist Party in 1931.Pringle departed for Europe on the SS Britannic, on May 1, 1937. In Spain, he served with the Mackenzie-Papineau Battalion and was wounded in the shoulder at Teruel and come back quickly after of fascist attack of March 1938 in Aragon-Catalonia. He was arrested with others internationals and transfered from Zaragoza with 11 Internationals to San Pedro de Cardeña concentration camp on 14 April 1938. He was among the seventy-one POWs who were repatriated, aboard the SS President Harding, on May 6, 1939.
